Volunteering Opportunities

​

Shop Volunteer - Larne 
​

We are delighted to be opening our first Women's Aid ABCLN retail outlet in Larne.  

 

We are looking for reliable volunteers to work both behind the scenes and on the shop floor.  You may be a student looking for retail experience, or wanting to change the direction of your career. You may be retired or just looking to give something back to the community. 

​

What you will be doing: 

  • Receiving and sorting donations

  • Steaming and pricing donations

  • Arranging shop displays

  • Providing customer service on the shop floor

Reconnect Volunteer 

​

Reconnect offers a 12-week personal development programme for women to increase confidence and self-esteem, reduce isolation and focus on their well-being.

​

Reconnect Groups provide a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where women can relax, meet with other women and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

​

Activities include Goal Setting, Personal Development Plans, Communicate with Confidence, Dress for Success, Connect, Get Creative, Nature & Nurture,  Breath Work & Yoga and Walking Together.

​

Reconnect Roles:

  • Reconnect Welcome Volunteer

  • Reconnect Co-Facilitator

  • Reconnect Guest Speaker

​

What you will be doing: 

  • Provide a warm welcome for women taking part in groups

  • Help Reconnect Worker to plan and deliver activities

  • Assist with room set up and help tidy up afterwards

  • Support Guest Speakers to host group activities

  • Encourage women to participate in activities

  • Signpost women to Domestic Abuse Specialists for support

​

Reconnect Groups meet one morning per week in Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey.

Refuge Volunteer 

​

Women and children come to Refuge at a point of crisis and often need a significant amount of support with safety planning and protection measures.  Refuge is a fast-paced environment and every day can be different.

 

Refuge staff and volunteers work together to ensure that refuge runs smoothly and women and children have access to the services and support they need.

 

Refuge Roles:

  • Welcome Volunteer

  • House Keeping Volunteer

  • Refuge Volunteer

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Provide a warm and welcoming environment for women and children in refuge

  • Help with housekeeping and cleaning of rooms

  • Plan and deliver social activities with women

  • Attend appointments with women

  • Provide childcare & support for mums

  • Build rapport and listen to women and children

Gardening Volunteer 

​

Women’s Aid ABCLN’s Safe Haven Garden in Antrim and Garden in Refuge, Ballymena provide safe and nurturing outdoor spaces for women and children experiencing domestic abuse. Our gardens require on-going maintenance and offer a wonderful opportunity for volunteers and supporters to get involved in our work.

​

You can volunteer in our gardens on a regular basis or as team of volunteers, offering a lending hand when needed.

​

Gardening Roles:

  • Safe Haven Garden Volunteer - Antrim

  • Refuge Garden Volunteer - Ballymena

  • Outdoor Maintenance Volunteers

 

What you will be doing: â€‹ 

  • Planting and maintaining garden beds & window boxes

  • Regular power hosing, weeding & brushing paths

  • General outdoor maintenance including grass cutting or painting fences
