One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

Women are on average assaulted 35 times before they seek help.

Over 30% of domestic abuse starts during pregnancy.

It is estimated that 32,000 children are living with domestic violence in Northern Ireland (UNICEF 2006).

In 90% of incidents children are in same or adjacent room when violence happens.

From April 2019 to March 2020 there were 31,817 domestic abuse incidents reported to the PSNI with 18,640 domestic abuse crimes recorded representing a 15.3% increase on the previous 12 months and highest since records began in 2004/05.

PSNI report there were five murders with a domestic abuse motivation during 2019/20.

Domestic abuse represents 17.5% of all police recorded crime.

Police respond to one incident of domestic abuse every 17 minutes across Northern Ireland.
