Training and development opportunities will be provided for all volunteers including domestic abuse awareness and other training courses

Volunteering Opportunities

​

Reconnect Volunteer 

​

Reconnect offers a 12-week personal development programme for women to increase confidence and self-esteem, reduce isolation and focus on their well-being.

​

Reconnect Groups provide a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where women can relax, meet with other women and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

​

Activities include Goal Setting, Personal Development Plans, Communicate with Confidence, Dress for Success, Connect, Get Creative, Nature & Nurture,  Breath Work & Yoga and Walking Together.

​

Reconnect Roles:

  • Reconnect Welcome Volunteer

  • Reconnect Co-Facilitator

  • Reconnect Guest Speaker

​

What you will be doing: 

  • Provide a warm welcome for women taking part in groups

  • Help Reconnect Worker to plan and deliver activities

  • Support Guest Speakers to host group activities

  • Encourage women to participate in activities

  • Build rapport and listen to women

  • Signpost women to Domestic Abuse Specialists for support

​

Reconnect Groups meet one morning per week in Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey.

Refuge Volunteer 

​

Women and children come to Refuge at a point of crisis and often need a significant amount of support with safety planning and protection measures.  Refuge is a fast-paced environment and every day can be different.

 

Refuge staff and volunteers work together to ensure that refuge runs smoothly and women and children have access to the services and support they need.

 

Refuge Roles:

  • Welcome Volunteer

  • House Keeping Volunteer

  • Refuge Volunteer

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Provide a warm and welcoming environment for women and children in refuge

  • Help with housekeeping and cleaning of rooms

  • Plan and deliver social activities with women

  • Attend appointments with women

  • Provide childcare & support for mums

  • Build rapport and listen to women and children

Court Support Volunteer 

​

Court Support is a service provided to women who are required to attend court on any issue relating to the domestic abuse they have experienced. Attending court can be a traumatic experience for women.

​

Women tell us that it has made a significant difference to know Women’s Aid ABCLN Court Support Volunteers are there to support them and they are not alone. 

​

What you will be doing: 

  • Arrange a pre-court visit for women, if required

  • Accompany women to court and meetings with solicitor or barrister

  • Access a designated waiting room and refreshments  

  • Build rapport and listen to women

  • Clarification of information throughout the process

  • Signpost women to Domestic Abuse Specialists for additional needs-led support
